Bob Derry interview, 1984 July 20.

Derry talks of his two years, 1943 and 1946, as a smokejumper and about his brothers Frank, Chet and Virgil, all smokejumpers. He supervised conscientious objectors at age seventeen and returned as a veteran in 1946. He left smokejumping after that year, disillusioned with the Forest Service, but not with smokejumping or fire fighting.
